Short Term Disability (STD)

 The Bishop’s School offers employees paid short-term disability insurance through the EDD State of California. It provides partial wage replacement benefits to eligible employees who are unable to work due to a non-work-related illness/injury, or pregnancy. All eligible employees receive benefits up to 55% of their earned wages during the duration of their leave. You must apply for the disability coverage through the State of California and have your doctor certify the leave with the state.Benefits begin after the 7-day elimination period is met and will continue as long as you meet the definition of disability up to 52 weeks.

Long Term Disability (LTD)

Long-term disability (LTD Disability-Español) coverage provides important financial protection for you and your family in the event of an extended recovery from accident or illness through Unum. All full-time, active employees are eligible to receive benefits equal to 66.67% of their monthly pre-disability earnings up to a maximum of $10,000 a month. Benefits begin after the 90-day elimination period is met and will continue as long as you meet the definition of disability up to your normal social security retirement age. If you become disabled at or after the age of 65, your benefits will be payable according to Unum’s age-based schedule.
